Personality - Richard can be quiet and moody at times, but under most circumstances he is friendly and helpful. He is quick to smile and he is a good student, but he tends to seem a little distracted and unfocused. He isn't foolhardy, but he has never been known to back down from a fight, verbal or otherwise.
He is the oldest of three boys and as such, he tends to step into an authority role whenever the situation seems to call for it. He is not necessarily a control freak, but if a situation starts to seem chaotic, he will intercede in an attempt to establish order.
Studies of chivalry and his aristocratic past have instilled in him a strong sense of honor and fair play, and he tends to hold others to the same high standards to which he holds himself. This can make him extremely unpopular ... but only among the unscrupulous and dishonorable sorts, of course.
Richard's attitude towards women is extremely old fashioned. He has not quite gotten it through his head that women don't really need as much rescuing in this day and age as they seem to have needed back in the age of fairy tales. This, also, has done little to endear him to girls who've known him in the past. He had a wake-up call in high school, in the form of a young lady he liked who had enough of his casual chauvanism and broke up with him, but he's still not convinced that men and women are equals in this world.
Character History - Richard grew up in an aristocratic household in Germany, the oldest child of the family. Richard's father, Ludwig von Prinz, is descended on his mother's side from the Habsburg dynasty, and Richard's mother, Antoinette Bourbon-Charmanter, is descended from Prussian and French aristocracy, with ties to the royal families of Belgium and Monaco.
Richard is supposed to return home and assume his father's title, one day, that of Grand Duke of Bavaria. He's lived under a lot of pressure to measure up to generations of Charmanters and Prinzes and their ancestors by numerous other names, and while Richard has never been emotionally close to his family, he wants to make them proud of him.
When Richard was a child, he spent as much of his rare free time as possible outdoors, in the woods and meadows of his family's land in Bavaria. He grew to appreciate the flora and fauna around him, and developed an interest in plants and wildlife. If he's reading anything outside of his coursework, it's typically something to do with natural history, botany or zoology. He has very little interest in fiction now, though he read fairy tales and fantasy extensively as a child.
He attends Walt Disney University because his father was in the first graduating class, the Class of 1979. Ludwig was so fond of the school, its curriculum and staff, that he intends for it to be a new family tradition.
Miscellaneous: Richard is an avid hunter and horseman, and he is very skilled at dressage, the riding style descended from medieval chivalry. He knows how to ride a motorcycle and a scooter, and that's his preferred way of getting around in areas where travel by horse is impractical (i.e., most places in the world). He has traveled much of Europe and speaks German as his native language and English and French fluently. He owns his own fencing foil and saber, as well as an unsharpened (but otherwise combat-quality) broadsword, which hangs on the wall of his dorm room.
Richard favors dark, solid colored clothing in the winter, and whites and unbleached cotton and linen during warmer months. PETA would probably hate him; he has no great eversion to either fur or leather. His motorcycle / scooter helmet is silver, with a mirrored visor.
